Fellowship Topic and Objectives

This is a fully-funded fellowship in Germany for international researchers, think tank members, and practitioners working on issues related to Turkey. Turkey is a country of great importance to Germany and the European Union for several reasons:

  • Strategic location: It is a bridge between Europe and Asia, and is vital for trade and energy routes.
  • NATO Ally: Being a member of NATO makes it a key security partner.
  • Economic relations: It has strong economic ties with the European Union.
  • Growing influence: Turkey's influence is growing in regions such as the Caucasus, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • Migration hub: It is a central point for migration to Europe, both for people passing through and for those who remain.
  • Large diaspora: Many Turks live in Europe, creating complex social and political ties.

It is essential for Germany and Europe to understand what is happening in Turkish politics, society, and foreign policy, especially given the current global uncertainty. We encourage ambitious researchers with a strong research background focused on Turkey to apply, even if they have not yet completed their doctoral degree.
