Applications are now open for the University of Tokyo MEXT Scholarship 2026 in Japan. This fully-funded scholarship , offered by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) , is available to applicants wishing to pursue a master's or doctoral degree for the October 2026 intake. The University of Tokyo has 15 graduate schools , each with different departments. You can apply to master's and doctoral programs at these schools. Graduate School of Science (MEXT) Scholarship : The Graduate School of Science is accepting applications for the university-recommended MEXT Scholarship for 2026. The college comprises five departments: Physics, Astronomy, Earth and Planetary Sciences, Chemistry, and Biological Sciences.

Department of Civil Engineering : The Department of Civil Engineering is also accepting applications for the 2026 MEXT Scholarship.

Eligibility criteria

  • The scholarship is open to all nationalities (except Japanese).
  • Applicants with a bachelor's degree are welcome to apply.
  • The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.30.
